Imaginarios sociales y prácticas de diseño en la ciudad de Cali (1940- 1970), Colombia

Some aspects of the relationship between the imaginaries and the first manifestations of design in the construction of an idea of modernization in the context of the city of Cali, Colombia, during the first half of the 20th century are presented. An urban history was critically analyzed based on the press discourse of the time. Some social and urban imaginaries that represent everyday life in this microhistorical context were studied, to understand their articulation with the incipient development of the practice of design, as a mechanism of progress in the Colombian Valle del Cauca region. Some urban works stand out between the years 1940 and 1970, a practice that is related to the official findings raised by historiography on the origin of Design in Colombia. This research generates a series of approaches about the disciplinary origins of Design in Colombia, as a complex phenomenon, related to different interests, historically motivated by the satisfaction of desires of different human groups.
