About the Journal

Focus and scope

CONTEXTO. Revista de la Facultad de Arquitectura Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León is an international and scientific journal. Its content goes through a peer-review process and all its published issues are indexed on different international platforms and websites. It has been edited since 2007 under the rights, the sponsorship and the administration of the Facultad de Arquitectura at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, in Mexico.

The journal’s authorities and the Editorial Board will be grateful to receive original and unpublished manuscripts or book reviews at the journal’s website: contexto.uanl.mx

CONTEXTO is a biannual publication, specialized on architecture and urban and regional studies, granting privilege to multidisciplinary research on social sciences and humanities (architecture, geography, sociology, economy, anthropology, psychology, history, education and others related) all around the world, but specially focusing on situations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the evaluation of the received manuscripts, those which focus on excessively local and restricted areas won’t be considered for its publication. Therefore, those that do contribute to the international scientific community will appear in the journal after being reviewed and selected.

As it has been already mentioned, CONTEXTO is published twice a year, in March and September.

Peer Review Process

All the content in the scientific journal CONTEXTO, in particular the selection of original and unpublished manuscripts, is done by an external, anonymous and confidential evaluation system elaborated by experts in the field, through a randomly chosen peer-review process. The following clauses should be considered:

1. Every judgement and observation as a result from the review should be strictly objective.

2. There must not be conflicts of interest between the author and the evaluator.

3. Those who carry out the review should indicate quotes and/or references that have been omitted.

4. The confidentiality of the submissions must be kept before their publication.

5. In case of any discrepancy in the peer-review process, the manuscript will be sent to a third evaluator, whose decision will define its publication.

6. The results after the academic evaluating process will be unappealable in any case.

7. At the moment of acceptance of their manuscripts, the authors must guarantee the rights of publication to CONTEXTO, considering the conditions established by the journal. The authors have the right to receive a copy of the published issue in which their articles appeared.

8. Every article submitted in CONTEXTO goes through a meticulous review process.

i. First, it is verified that the authors have followed the publication norms. Secondly, after the reception of the manuscript, it will be considered as “Received”. In case the manuscript does not follow the established norms, the authors will be notified with a “Not Received” message, and, therefore, the editorial process will be interrupted.

ii. Then, each received manuscript is sent anonymously to a pair of reviewers, whose judgement will allow the Editorial Board to decide if the manuscript can be:

a) published with no corrections;

b) published with corrections; or

c) rejected.

This process may take up to six months.

9. It should be stated that CONTEXTO does not consider among its policies the charge of any fee (cash or any other payment method) for the processing of original manuscripts, book reviews and any other of the journal’s sections.

10. The editorial section and the book reviews are NOT reviewed through the peer-review process.

11. CONTEXTO does not force the authors to take part in the peer-review process policies. However, some of them could be invited without obligation in the review of specialized articles, being granted with a collaboration certificate.

Manuscripts evaluation

In order to publish an article in the journal, in addition to the requirements previously described, it is necessary that the author or authors sign a “Declaration of Originality”, where it is certified that the article is original and has never been published in any other journals. It is also necessary to declare that the content of the article is free of copyright infringement.

The authors who publish in the journal accept the following conditions:

1. The authors keep the copyright and give the journal the right of the first publication, with their content registered under the Creative Commons License, which lets third parties to use the published material as long as they mention the authors and the first publication from the journal.

2. The authors can make other independent and additional contractual agreements for the non-exclusive distribution of the version of the article published in the journal (for example an institutional repository or a book) provided that they clearly mention that the content was first published in CONTEXTO.

The manuscripts must be sent to the journal's website: contexto.uanl.mx, following the instructions shown in the registration form.

After receiving the manuscripts, within a maximum period of 30 days, the author will get an acknowledgement of receipt.

Publication ethics

CONTEXTO. Revista de la Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León is a journal with a high degree of ethics in the scientific research environment, therefore, each published issue is created with a high degree of ethics quality and with the application of exhaustive reviews on its content to prevent from unethical malpractices, such as plagiarism and other similar misconducts.

These actions are evaluated by:

1. The Editor;

2. The Director; and

3. The Editorial Team.

These actions can lead to a definitive rejection of the article or to its correction. All this, of course, considers giving the author the right to explain the motives of such actions.

On the other hand, a constant practice done by the journal’s team, since its beginning in 2007, is that the Editor is always in the best disposition to publish relevant corrections and/or clarifications regarding the content of any issue already published. And even apologizing in case of making an unintentional mistake or omission.

In this sense, CONTEXTO ethics and editorial policies are guided by the following specific criteria:

i. In any case the journal and its editors should support research misconducts and/or consciously allow these to take place in the journal’s publications.

ii. In case the editor of the journal receives any complaint or allegation regarding malpractices, he must deal with the situation appropriately and as best as possible, always being explicit and showing relevant proofs.

iii. If this were the case, the journal should indicate the author(s) the reason of a rejection, correction or doubt related to an article.

iiii. The editors of CONTEXTO should always be willing to publish corrections, clarifications, rejections and apologies when necessary.

Open Access Policy

CONTEXTO guarantees that all articles, dossiers, book reviews and editorials are available immediately on the journal’s website (context.uanl.mx) and also in its printed publication.

It is necessary to highlight that none of these ways of access has an economic cost for the readers, since CONTEXTO is available and open to all audiences.
